Your mage eye tells you that he is involved in a huge, complex project, but the details you cannot discern, not being a necromancer. Khafra gives you his arm to take, and he leads you up the stairs and into the night. Across the way is an inn, and there he tells you he has taken a room. "Shall we go up? And what do you fancy in the way of food and drink?"

"I am still so new to Nirrion. What is your favorite Skenje dish?" I ask. "And perhaps some Hinathlor wine?"

"I will have stuffed songbirds and Hinathlor wine sent up." He places the order with the landlord and then escorts you upstairs, the landlord watching with interest as you both go.
Khafra's room is small but comfortable, and the way it's arranged with all the necromancer's personal effects tells you he's been here some time.

"Thank you so much for the hospitality, Khafra," I say. "I remember how you used to say you would go to Nirrion City, and here you have done it. Two years graduated and already living exactly what you had planned." I sip at the wine. "Is it as enjoyable as you had hoped?"

"It is!" he says with a smile and raises his cup to you. "You know, there'd not be much here for me to do if it weren't for the vanity of the patricians. They think embalming somehow takes the sting out of death."

I chuckle. "That seems foolish. Surely, as a Necromancer, you know better than anyone still living about the finality of death."

He nods, and he stares at his feet. "Well, finality for the living, yes, but in my field, death is no barrier to life again... life after a fashion."

I have always found Necromancy particularly off-putting, but this is a fellow mage, and courtesy requires no less. "That sounds fascinating. Have you had any success in producing this ... after a fashion life? Do your projects go on as you would have hoped?"

Khafra is most reticent to speak of such things, and what he says next is a bold-faced lie: "My projects are going well" (this is true) "but alas they are paid for by the quality so I cannot speak of what I'm doing" (a lie).

"Ah well," I say, for I do not wish to press the point. "Perhaps it as well--I would probably not understand it anyway, Enchantress that I am!"

You sit and talk of your shared time at the Academy.

I do not linger long, for I am concerned now about what his projects might be. I do not wish to subscribe to the prejudice so common at the Academy that Necromancers are all evil, but his lies and his shifty behavior do make me concerned. I bid him farewell after a brief chat, and then I return to the inn where my cousins are staying.
