The engineering knowledge is sound, but you'd need to see the engine up close.

Well, that is not going to happen, I hope!
So for the time, I set aside the spider-thing, and go out into the caravan. When I reach a stopping point on any project, I set it aside.
I go in search of Captain Aberana. I want to ask him about any of Mikkel's adventures and any dangers in particular we might expect over the next days.

You find Aberana among his people, talking to them at meal time. The captain gives you a bowl of hot soup that swims with vegetables and morsels of meat. As you nibble, Aberana answers you. "We'll be moving faster than normal because of Cian's aid, which is good. There are Zenji desert tribes who don't pay allegiance to the Arinport Crown, and sometimes they harass us."

"That is good." I sip at the stew. "This is delicious. Do you also brew your own ales?" I know they cannot make wine, being so mobile. "I would love either to learn or to teach something from your brewers..."

Aberana stares at you. "No. We'd love to, of course, but being always on the move... and the equipment necessary. We just end up trading for beer, wine, and whatnot."
Your engineering mind gets to work at once. Could you design a mobile brewing kit?

That at least I should be able to manage! I begin to mentally sketch out designs... (I rolled Engineering successfully.)
"What sorts of jugs, urns, and pans do you have?" I ask. "Perhaps I can try to rig something up for your clan to use. Being able to brew your own ale or beer would be useful, especially since in these uncertain times, those who traded it to you might prefer to buy it from you now!"

You set to work on that, and Aberana assigns an older woman to assist you, telling you that she knows where everything is.

"I am Mairwyn," I say to her. "What is your name?" I am busy rummaging through the pots and pans she has brought. I want something I can create a soldered seal for, and a pan in which to put the heated coals for beginning the process.

"I am Tsura," the woman says with a warm smile. "And you are just a darling, aren't you?" She touches your red hair like it's... currency.

I feel oddly put off by the way she touches my hair, and I quickly tie it up. "We will need to be getting to work, Tsura." I smile at her, for the feeling is in me, not her, surely.
"What do you usually do in the caravan?" I ask, as I gather the pots I want.

"This n that," she answers evasively. "But here's what we go in the way of metal pots and whatnot."
You look over the wagon carrying all the gear and see that they have everything you'd need to set up a brewing kit.

Tsura concerns me. Her evasive manner and the way she looks at my hair--I do not like it.
"Here," I say. "Please set up these pots like this. I will need to go fetch a bit of coal."
(Is there a way I could approach her after, say in wraithform beneath the wagon, to listen to her? To see if anyone meets her? I do not trust her at all...)

After his tense confrontation with Cian, Aethyl goes in search of Mairwyn to confide in her, and to consider how they may best help the situation with their cousin. He has also been feeling an odd prickle, and wants to inquire further about the nature of magic, its use, and (especially) its less appealing consequences.

"Yes, Cousin?" I am busy with various pots, but quite relieved to see Aethyl. The Grorekathi Tsura is creeping me out a little. "You seem a little distressed. What is it? Have you and Cian had a lovers' quarrel?"
(I remember what I saw just before the caravan left! )

(By the way, you overheard just as Aethyl was arriving, what Tsura was saying to a small boy. "You've seen that beautiful red-haired girl we got in camp, yes? Well, when she sleeps, I want you to cut off her hair. It'll fetch a pretty price.")
