I gather my cousins and Drusinicus together to ask them a question, and to introduce them to Aberana.
"I have been offered a position as Sentinel by Captain Aberana." I gesture to the Grorekathi Captain. "I have told him that I could not accept permanently, but that I would like to, at least for a while, if you did not object to coming, too. You see, they are traveling up north, and we could go with the whole caravan. I would, of course, be supposed to try to protect them, and well..." I trail off. "What do you say?"

"Seems that it would definitely be a lot safer among company. And you wouldn't be protecting them all on your own. What say you Aethyl and Drusinicus?"

"Please?" I make puppy eyes at the two who have yet to agree.

Aethyl frowns and arches a skeptical brow. "I'm a little offended that I wasn't courted first to travel with them and offer them protection as well. From boredom and potential death by lack of minstrelsy. A vulgar oversight, cousin, but forgivable. Only for you, dear Mairwyn. And only with you, dear Cian."
He sighs with a heavy tone and then grins devilishly at the group. "I wonder too if there are any fair young ladies who might be in especial need of protection on these cold, dark nights. It would be an unforgivable thing to allow that to happen. I suppose it's really our duty to travel with them. What say you, Drusinicus?"

I give Aethyl a little nudge with my elbow. "Thank you, Cousin," I say. Then I turn to Drusinicus, too.

One thing Aethyl does realize, actually, is that the ratio of women to men is much more even than in the rest of the peoples of Norivea! They have more ladies, though none of them are fair. Beautiful to be sure, but not fair.
