As a well-trained gladiator, Drusincus understand the delicate balance of skill and risk-taking in the arena. Since joining his new friends and leaving the life as an arena star, he often marvels at the fighting skills of others - especially as he has a habit of sizing people up based on their strength and abilities. Cian, one of the gladiator's new fiends, is somewhat of a curiosity to Drusincus but he is not one to share or relate his feelings until they have earned his trust. For the gladiator, this trust is often met in combat! Over the weeks since Drusincus left his homeland for a life of adventure outside of the arena, he has grown more accustomed to the many antics of the "cousins" who shares his travels. Of the three cousins, he has always been impressed of the young, priestly Cian's propensity for risk during combat. Drusincius often muses, " I wonder if Cian would consider learning the trade of the gladiator? Perhaps I can encourage the young priest to trade in his robes and spells for a druses and helmet?" His soliloquy quickly ended as he heard someone enter the camp. With his short sword drawn, he quickly moves toward the noise.
After realizing that the intruder was a small animal foraging for food, he went back to the fire he had started where the others lay. "

"So tell me friend, how did you know that creature that rose up out of the ground was such a dangerous opponent?"

"Cian, my training has taught me to detect the sounds of various opponents including beasts for I have fought both man and beast in the arena."

"Drusinicus my friend, tell me about yourself. What brought you to a career in the arenas?" "I was chosen for my strength and agility to fight in the arena even as a child. I received several years of gladiatorial training from the best fighters in all of Kailos. I would like to learn more about your religion, if you will teach me."

"I'd be happy to discuss matters of faith. I've always loved the mighty sea and storms. Probably the most significant moment of my life was watching a storm rage through Elunia destroying much. However, after it passed the people worked together to rebuild. We had one of the best harvests in memory that year and the destruction brought our community closer than ever before. I realized that chaos was not to be feared but rather to be embraced. Too much stability leads to laxness and corruption. Think of a pond that's lain undisturbed. It becomes covered with grime and muck. It needs to be cleansed through the thrashing of storm, wind and rain. Chaos is necessary much like the rapids of a river. You never see pollution or corruption there. Too much stagnation has overtaken many of the faiths of this land. I strive to bring the storm to cleanse it."

I wait expectantly for what response Drusinicus might have. He seems to be very intelligent so I'm pretty sure he'll understand but curious about how he'll react.

"I have seen many men die in the arena with their final words always projected to the sky - to their own gods! I have never been much of a religious man but the more I see death and hear the cries of the dying the more I am convinced that the gods may indeed be real. Please, Cian, teach me more of your god."

"In my experience, the gods are capricious. While I believe that the gods your opponents cried to were there it is instructive that they did not respond. It's like they flipped a coin and let the result take one and save the other. I have chosen to serve that chaos because in serving it, I can be at the center of the storm and orchestrate it. Whether they claim it or no, all of the gods serve chaos or at least allow chaos to reign. They speak of good, evil, order, law but why don't they answer? Why don't they save their champions? What I do know is that chaos answers."

"As a gladiator, your constant and only companion in the arena is death. Yes, death has been my companion! Death is both companion and enemy and it seems that your god, Chaos, is a companion that brings understanding to death." ""

“Yes, chaos is all things: life and death, creation and destruction, wounding and healing. Therefore all things, even death, have purpose in chaos. As a gladiator, death hounds your steps but you need not fear it. It can have glorious purpose.”

"Your words are always of comfort, mighty Cian! I have always longed to find that balance - even in the arena. Religion and the gods were not something formally addressed by the fighters who trained me lest we (as gladiators) be labeled as weak and mystic fools!"

"Based on the other religions I've witnessed I can understand that label. But there is nothing weak nor foolish about Chaos. It is strength, wisdom and justice."
