I do not yet speak, but I throw back my hood and my veil, and I pause a moment, staring at Livius, trying to determine his reaction.
Then, after that pause, I say, "How long did you serve with Captain Nevius?"

Livus stares at you, unable to speak for a few moments. At last he recovers and says distractedly, "I owe the captain everything, and my life many times over. He taught me everything about being a sailor."
Then to Aethyl he says, "Captain Nevius is a man of the world, as you clearly are. What profit is there longterm in working with the curtains?"

I pause to see if Aethyl is going to reply, for I wish to ask, too, where the captain is being held.

At last Aethyl drops his cold demeanor.
"There is no profit at all, unless one finds a frozen, undead world, and death everlasting, profitable. We do not, as clearly you do not. Tell us, if you can, where is your captain being held?"

"At the dockmaster's cabin," Livius explains. It's in the middle of the settlement, after the wharfside taverns. The curtains have got him locked up there, no doubt with their zombies around the place."

"So if we were to get him out of there, you would all be willing to sail with us?" I ask. "Can you answer so far for your Captain? For we are no friends to the cultists, as you can see."

"Then by all means your captain is in need of fairer seas, and fresher air. Let us see to that. How many men have you aboard, and how swiftly can you weigh anchor once the captain sets his feet once more on deck?"

Livius takes what you both have to say in before he responds, and his response is serious and measured. [observation check]
"The captain is also no friend to the curtains. They're bad for business, and what with the sun gone... gods below, what are we going to do? I know that if you could free the captain, he'd be much obliged and would be honor-bound to sail for you wherever you need to go." He pauses and swallows hard. "This ship holds a crew of ten, including the captain. Four of our men died fighting to save the captain, but there's four of you..."
Clearly he is hinting you all could be taught the basics to get this ship under weigh.

I glance at Iritari and say, "I would be willing to do my part, I've no doubt."

(Edit because Aethyl already made the Observation check)
Aethyl, you sense a deep shame in Livius, and in a flash of insight you understand. Four men dead defending their captain, but not the first mate among the slain? Livius was seized by cowardice, and now he regrets it.

Oblivious to this, I simply drop my veil back over my face and pull up my cloak.
I am busy designing a plan of approach, as well as I can from the description without seeing the place.

I imagine that Rajit would have some input as he must have assaults and rescues on his resume from being a Spear.

Aethly senses Livius' shame, but gives no hint that he guesses its source.
"On principle alone we will indeed rescue your captain, for we detest the red robes. More than you can know. And we are all willing to do our part, whatever comes. And if you and your men are willing to have us, we will serve this ship, and her crew, to the best of our ability."
Aethyl looks to each of his companions, reading their intent, then reaches forth his hand in a weighted silence, his eyes meeting Livius'.

Livius takes your hand. "As for my part, I say yes to all this, and you are a godsend from Galadrin himself! But I am not captain... or rather, I don't want to be." He is de facto captain with Nevius gone. "When you see my captain, please tell him I told you of him and sent you to free him."
He provides you with a rudimentary map of the harbor and the location of the dockmaster's cabin. "There may be some curtains inside interrogating him, but there are certainly two zombie guards posted outside next to the front door."

I glance at Aethyl. "We can but see the situation when we get there. So the sooner, the better," I say. "Let us go."
