First of all, once Iritari and I are safely out of the water again, I hug him close, whispering in his ear, "I know better than to be frightened, but my heart was not at ease until now."
Next, I thank Rajit for his skill and courage, and then I say to the sailors who are trying to take the chest. "Your captain suffered for this, and your second mate died for this. Do not falter now. Do not fall to sacrilege, lest you be no better than the cultists who tried to steal it!"

"But," another sailor says, "this is a treasure of some significance! Look at the world. It's dying! Whatever's inside that chest might be able to save us."

"When all is easy, the service we give to the gods comes easily. But now, now when all is difficult, will you throw away your piety? Would you be like the cultists themselves, trying to steal from Nistaran?" I draw myself up to my full height, which is ... not very tall.
"I shall not endure the sight of such a thing."
I would rather get another ship than sail with thieves from the gods, and I will not let them have it.

"And in Galadrin's name," I say, "you shall not do it!" I go to the chest and cast on it Weighty Chest and Frisky Chest both. Now it will become 2-5 times the weight of a person, beside me, attempting to take it, and furthermore, it will actually sprout limbs and dart away from anyone but me.
"I have warded this chest, by Galadrin's grace on me as a Mariness," I announce. "And you cannot take it now!"

Rajit chimes in. "The loss of the sun has driven all into chaos. Sadly chaos begets chaos. By taking this chest you tip the scales even more. Taking that which is not yours and using it for your own purposes drives us further into the darkness. While the sun is still gone, every action we take must be to restore order. Order that maintains dignity. Order that honors ownership. Order that gives back to its rightful owner what we have no claim to. If you take this chest, you are like the octopus who killed your mate. Nothing more than a selfish beast. I ask you: are you better than beasts? Do you wish to see the sun rise again?"

I wait and watch, to see if the sailors will heed Rajit's words, but the spells remain in place regardless. I also take Iritari's hand, for I do not want to be separated from him if things should go south.

As you both stand united against the crew, they would not dare move against your words and actions. At least for the time, the chest is left unmolested.

Seeing this, I then take the chest to the Captain's cabin, so that to take it from him, it would be mutiny. And the chest permits me to touch and carry it, but otherwise, still no one can.

Rajit will keep an eye and ear on the crew for the duration of the voyage.
