"I have a feeling that webs are only as tangled as we make them." I sip my wine.

I raise my eyebrow at this comment. "Say more Caoimhghin."

"That's it. I know you. I know Anak-Sa'ir. Then you know Anak, too, but also are going to be quadded to someone related to Anak's master." I chuckle. "Just interesting is all."

"I see. While I am happy to be more 'entangled' with Magister Judal, I was hoping to live awhile on my own. Having my own townhome, focusing on my work, it was all very enjoyable. Although even entanglements I chose became perilous. I never imagined that my relationship with Tekal would turn so sour. Did I tell the two of you that Jax found a curse scroll tucked in our gate?"

"You didn't mention the details, but you told us of a curse. Hence the wounding of Judal."

"Yes, I mentioned it to Magister Judal when I visited him at the temple. He somehow divined that the curse was indeed real and had affected my anima and my body. He said I likely would not have lasted a month. I suspect this is why I took such a drubbing in the bar the other night." I raise my glass to Caoimhghin "Thanks again for the Elunian ointment."
I take a sip and resume the story. "He actually cleared the temple area for me, enlisted his family in the ceremony and cleansed me of the curse with his own blood." I sit quietly for a few moments.
"Why me? I am the third son of a somewhat well-respected house but I'm a librarian. Why choose me for the quad and treat me specially in that ceremony?" I grow quiet again, the question being more rhetorical in nature.

I cannot speak to that, not understanding the intricacies of Nirrion politics. And this match is so obviously political. "Who could've made such a curse? What power did it draw from?"

"He said that the darkness was drawn from the powers of Chaos and that practitioners of such come and go like the wind. I'd love to get my hands on whoever did it and whoever ordered or requested it. Do either of you know anything of curses?"

I shake my head. "Not a bit. Nasty business, that. Whom did you anger so much that they cursed you?"

"Remember the scroll they wanted planted and the suicide of Cassius Tekal? My money would be on Secundus Krumov Ral the elder and his son or perhaps one or more of the hooded figures. For all I know, they're all complicit. I'm sure they're ire will grow rather than diminish when they see I do not fall dead in the next month."

Jax murmurs, "Dominus, Ral the Elder literally told you that you would rue the day..." He shakes his head.

"Ral the Elder will be back for more blood, then, Jax?"

Jax looks at you. "Well, Ral the Elder has taken to his bed, by accident or by design. But he most definitely has it in for the Dominus. Spat in his face, he did."

"Did this Ral spit in your face because you refused to lie on the Senate floor?"

"Yes, he blames me for the vote and for the death of his dear quadmate. I am so frustrated by all of this! I TOLD him it was a foolish plan. I'm not concerned that he spit in my face. I'm concerned that, that they, spit in the face of virtue by their disingenuous actions. I told them all that any path to save the Old Republic would have to be tread with virtue, not trickery, falsehood and deceit. As far as I'm concerned, his illness is just the chickens coming home to roost. Old fool. Still, I feel bad for him."
