You are familiar with all the major festivals of Nenetl. This is not one. In fact, this appears to be an invocative festival.
They are doing this to invoke Nenetl's blessing on something, though you doubt most of the participants are aware of this fact.

Can I ascertain which aspect of Nenetl they are invoking? To Caoimhghin "They are invoking Nenetl's blessing on something although I don't think the crowd knows it."

I nod nervously. "Is that... a bad thing?" I know nothing about religion. Always seemed rather irrelevant when I was studying at the Academy.

"That remains to be seen" I say scanning the crowd.

To ascertain which aspect, you could either ask someone, or else you could examine one of the holy symbols being surreptitiously displayed. That would require a Perc+Theology roll.

I'll try the holy symbol first. Would Heightened Senses help? 10, 9, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 1 - 3 successes (if specialty applies, another 10 and 6 - 5 successes)

(Specialties apply. Five successes gives you lots!)
You notice that, however they are disguising it, the symbols are those of Dark Nenetl, She of the Open Grave. There are little circlets of fangs in various locations around the festival.
And you see, with your attentive glance, one Skenje male with long, braided hair--and a circlet of fangs around his neck.

"Fangs" I say quietly to Caoimhghin. "What could they be blessing? It's a good thing we didn't bring Anak Sa'ir nor Sindre."
[is there open enmity between Haruspices and Fangs?]

"Fangs?" I look around and shudder. "Sounds snake-ish!"

The enmity is acknowledged on both sides, but they don't usually, say, come to blows in the street. But they both hate one another, for they are opposed to everything the other stands for.

[I'm wearing street clothes. How likely is it that I would be spotted as a Haruspex?]

(Very. Almost no one wears all black in Nirrion.)
You are not left to wonder long, for the Fang spots you and approaches!
"Get the fuck out, Haruspex!" he says. "You're not welcome here."

"It's a public street, ain't it?" I yell back.
