"A huge horse could work," Mikkel says weakly, "but you will tax all your strength doing so. There will be no margin for error."

"Then let us travel more slowly," I say, "if that is necessary. But we are not leaving you here!" I glance at the Captain. "Did you not mention a horse trader you passed? I know that I have goods I could trade if we could meet up with him on our way back to Breakwater?"

Aberana nods. "I believe we passed on a day back. Good idea, Mairwyn. Let's stop and see if we can make a trade." After all, the Grorekathi lives by trading.

"Then we can travel on foot, while Mikkel rides, until we reach the trader?" I ask. "And after that, we can try to trade, and may Galadrin bless our efforts."
I look between the two. I am not sorry we went on this journey, for Mikkel would have died otherwise, but I feel sorry to have brought them into further danger.

On the dark, moonlit road you meet a Kindor horse trader named Roibéard. He has with him two young Zenji, a male and a female, and after pleasantries are exchanged, the horselord observes that "there are three of you, yet there is only one horse... and one of you is injured!"

"Yes, sir," I say, curtsying prettily. "Do you have a horse for trade?"
I glance at the Captain. He is the one who is a trader, but I doubt that he has brought with him anything to trade. My mind is busy. I have magicks I could trade, but how best to do so without revealing myself as a mage?

"I am heading back north, so you've caught me just in time," Roibéard says. "What do you have to trade for a fine Kindor horse?"

Kindor horses are the finest in Norivea. Even I know this. "Let me speak with the Captain," I say. "For he is in charge of our goods."
I draw Captain Aberana aside. "Do you have anything?" I ask. I already know the answer, but I wait anyway. This conversation can serve to help hide that I am the origin of the magic we trade, if it comes to that.

"Yes, of course I have plenty to trade, but it's all back at the caravan. Doesn't really help us right now."

"If I give you something to trade, I trust you not to tell the trader where you got it. You are Grorekathi, and you travel much. It could have come from anywhere. Let us go to the horse, as though we were taking this from the pack."
(Can I have a light stone already prepared? I know Mairwyn has one of her own, so she could trade that one and replace it later? So that she doesn't have to cast right now.)

Yes, you can have a light stone already prepared.

I take the lightstone from its little pouch. "This glows continually," I say. "And it should be of some use. I made it, and I can replace it for us when we are gone, but ... please do not let him know that I made it. Let it be a thing from your travels." I turn innocent and pleading eyes on Captain Aberana.

Aberana takes the stone and nods. "It'll be our secret." It is Aberana who makes the trade, selling the stone as a merchant would, enumerating all its benefits in a world gone dark. Indeed, the Zenji children Roibéard travels with plead with him, saying what a joy it would be to have some light again. So the deal is made, and Aberana brings to you a beautiful Kindor riding horse named King.

I look from King to Bindi and back to the Captain. "Which horse should Mikkel ride? Which should you? Which should I? Who should ride together?"
What does King look like? Is he prettier than Bindi? If so, I might switch when the time comes!

King is pure black with a white splash down his nose. He is taller than Bindi. You want him. And you judge since because you are small, Mikkel could ride with you on him.
